Riddle Me This

Another warmer activity to add to the ever-expanding list of warmers... Riddle Me This.

I usually use topic-based riddles as a way of introducing a new unit. With a quick search on Google for riddles + your topic name, you can usually find a variety of riddles of mixed difficulty. For example, a quick search of riddles and the digestive system brought up this gem...

What tastes better than it smells?

Imagine the answers! Can you figure it out? How about the example in the screenshot below!? Post any answers in the comments section for your chance to win some instant internet admiration.

The scope of the response to any riddle often amazes me. With one riddle, usually comes at least three sensible answers balanced out with an equal amount of utter nonsense. It's also sometimes surprising who is the first to answer correctly. If nobody answers, then I'll let the children contemplate until the end of the day before revealing the answer.

More often than not, some spark will fly during the middle of class and the correct answer is yelled out by the least suspecting child!

As usual, I've created a PowerPoint slide to type in riddles straight in for an easy and stylish presentation. To download, click here to open it in a new tab, then download it to use.
