Chrome Extensions for Teachers

Here are a selection of my most used and appreciated Chrome extensions. Work smarter, not harder!

1. Adblock Plus - Must have ad-blocker for stopping those annoying popups, especially ones that may be NSFS (Not safe for school). Video Adblocker for Youtube is another great one, great for use at home too!

2. Hola VPN - If you're teaching abroad, this extension enables you to use/watch content from the UK and certain other countries that are region protected. I make use of the BBC Bitesize content with this.

3. View Image - This next one adds the 'view image' and 'search by image' buttons that Google removed not so long ago. So pleased to have this option back!

4. Hover Zoom - This extension pops up an enlarged image by just hovering over an image thumbnail. Useful for quickly showing a large assortment of images on Google, as opposed to opening them individually.

5. Grammarly - Advanced spell and grammar checker for anything you type in your browser. Useful for checking those emails to parents, admin messages, blog posts etc.

6. Print Friendly - This final one allows you to easily choose what you want to print from a web page. Helps save paper!

If you're not using any of these, I hope they will make your life a little easier. If you know of any other useful extensions for teachers, please post in the comments below.

  1. Beware of the 'commonly visited' sites section of Hola VPN. It's best to install and then open or close the tool without the children being able to see the screen. Don't forget to turn it off as well when you're not using it, as it will slow down your internet.
